Terms of service.

These terms govern your use of Noteworthy News - the website, notifications, live stories, interactive features, and the iOS app. By using our services, you agree to them.

Last updated: July 5, 2026

Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using Noteworthy News ("we," "us," or "our") - including our website, notifications, live story coverage, interactive features, and iOS app (together, the "services") - you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, do not use the services.

Our services

Noteworthy News is an independent news product. The services include news coverage and live story timelines, optional web push and iOS notifications, an AI research assistant grounded in our reporting, media literacy guides and games, and a companion iOS app with Live Activities. Coverage is provided free of charge and is currently supported by advertising, as described in our editorial policy.

Acceptable use

You may use the services for lawful purposes only. You agree not to:

  • Use the services in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems, accounts, or networks
  • Interfere with or disrupt the operation of the services, including by overloading, flooding, or spamming
  • Copy, reproduce, or redistribute our content at scale, or use automated systems to scrape or harvest content or data, except as expressly allowed
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity
  • Abuse contact, tip, comment, or notification systems, including submitting knowingly false reports

Accounts and sign-in

Some features - such as commenting or pairing the iOS app to your profile - require signing in. Authentication is handled by Auth0. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account and for keeping your credentials secure. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms.

Alerts and notifications

You can opt into alerts - breaking news, earthquake and severe weather notices derived from public data sources (such as USGS and the National Weather Service), live story updates, and iOS Live Activities. These are provided on a best-effort basis:

  • We do not guarantee that any alert will be delivered, or delivered in time to act on it.
  • Alerts are informational and are not a substitute for official emergency warnings. Always follow guidance from local authorities and official emergency channels.
  • Delivery depends on third-party infrastructure (browsers, push services, Apple Push Notification service) outside our control.

Intellectual property

All content on Noteworthy News - articles, updates, graphics, logos, and software - is the property of Noteworthy News or its content suppliers and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may share links to our coverage and quote brief excerpts with attribution. You may not use our content for commercial purposes without our express written permission.

Where our coverage embeds or links to third-party material (for example, posts on X or agency imagery), that material remains the property of its owners.

Your content

If you submit comments, tips, feedback, or other content:

  • You retain ownership of your content.
  • You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and display it in connection with operating the services - including, for tips, verifying and reporting on the information you provide.
  • You represent that your content does not violate any third-party rights or any law.
  • We may remove content that violates these terms, and we are not obligated to publish, retain, or act on anything submitted.

Source-protection commitments we make to tipsters are described on our contact page and are not diminished by this section.

Games, tools, and AI

Our media literacy games, guides, and the Noteworthy News AI assistant are provided for educational and informational purposes. The AI assistant is grounded in our reporting and instructed to cite sources and flag uncertainty, but like all AI systems it can make mistakes. Its responses are not professional advice, and important claims should be checked against the cited sources. Game content and scores are for learning and entertainment, not a definitive fact-checking service.

External links

Our services link to third-party websites - including original sources, which our standards require us to cite. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of external sites. A link is a citation, not an endorsement.

Disclaimer of warranties

The services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Without limiting the foregoing, we do not guarantee that:

  • The services will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
  • Content - especially coverage of developing events, which changes by nature - is complete, accurate, or current at any given moment
  • The services are free from viruses or other harmful components

We hold ourselves to the standards published in How we verify, and we correct errors in public - but those standards are editorial commitments, not legal warranties.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Noteworthy News and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages - including damages arising from reliance on content or alerts, missed or delayed notifications, or inability to use the services - even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Changes to these terms

We may modify these terms as the services evolve. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and significant changes may be highlighted on the site. Your continued use of the services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the services, in whole or in part, at any time and without notice, including for violations of these terms. You may stop using the services at any time; provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) survive.

Governing law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which Noteworthy News operates, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions. If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.
